Infodump #12: Local Phenomena
There's a lot of world-building that doesn't necessarily tie into the book directly, so I'd like to discuss some of those aspects here.
1. nature/event memorials
- Leonidas (the in-book name for Earth) has existed for around 4000 years. naturally, quite a bit has happened in that time. Wars fought, love stories, family trials, loved ones lost. Any significant event you can imagine. Sun, Moon, and Stars often find themselves attached to many humans and their families. They empathize with their struggles and their successes since they were once human (or human adjacent) themselves.
- as a result, when these humans die or accomplish something that the gods see as significant, they'll usually make them a memorial of some kind. A statue, their emblem/symbolism marked into the area, a structure. Over time, the memories of these people fade. But their mark remains on the land. I'll give some examples with images I found on pinterest - please keep in mind I am not the owner/creator of the pictures shown below.
a. a spot where someone had their baby blessed by Moon

b. A place where Star struck someone with inspiration (indicated with permanent rainbow hues)
c. Area where a peace treaty was reached/signed, blessed by sun
d. a spot on the beach where someone confessed their feelings (sun and moon)
e. A long forgotten temple for those in need, made in the image of a selfless woman who dedicated her life to helping others.
2. ghosts/other
- using shadows or the cover of night, many beings will visit Leonidas to check out what's going on. Some of these people are souls who used to live there, traditional ghosts if you will. They're not trapped or lost, they choose to come and go as they will (unless they're caught tampering with the lives of the living too much). There are other spirits as well, these ones less accustomed to humans/humanity. They pop in from other more alien worlds, you can think of these as boogeymen or things that go bump in the night. They're almost never malicious, but they can be tricksters. They love to mess with people when they figure out that they get spooked by.
3. Spirits
- now this might seem identical to what's listed above, but it's a bit different. The ones above can come and go as they please, but spirits choose/are enlisted to come to Leonidas and will typically stay until its dissolution/end. For example; animals, dragons, the sea spirit, winds, forest spirits, mountain spirits, so on and so forth. They act as sages and protectors of their own individual areas and all have their own personalities.
